Quick answer

Art-is-Tree LLC is a licensed, insured tree removal service in Virginia Beach, VA. Tree removal in Virginia Beach usually means rigging the tree down in sections or lifting it out with a crane, because tight coastal lots and sandy soil make a straight fell unsafe. We are the BBB A+ large-tree specialist serving all of Hampton Roads — Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake and Portsmouth — with free written estimates and 24/7 emergency tree removal. Call (757) 319-5131.

Tree removal in Virginia Beach is not a simple job. The lots are tight. The trees are big. The sandy coastal soil means root systems do not always hold the way you would expect, and a tree that looks stable can fail fast when conditions are right. A large loblolly pine, a mature water oak, or a decades-old live oak that has grown over your roofline requires real planning to come down safely — the right rigging, the right equipment, and a climber who has made these decisions before under real pressure.

Mike Campbell has been making those decisions for 17 years. Before starting Art-is-Tree LLC in 2021, he climbed trees for other Hampton Roads companies, learning every scenario this area produces. He has taken down 70-foot loblolly pines in residential backyards in Kempsville with less than 10 feet of clearance on either side. He has removed massive live oaks overhanging rooflines in Thoroughgood and Great Neck. He has handled storm-damaged trees leaning against structures in Chesapeake and Portsmouth that needed to come down immediately and correctly — no margin for error. One customer watched the crew rig down 25-foot sections from a 60-foot oak with precision that left the shed directly below completely untouched. For a crane job, read our crane safety case study: several declining loblolly pines lifted over the roof of a waterfront Virginia Beach home, section by section, with nothing touching the house or the shoreline buffer.

How We Approach Every Tree Removal

Tree removal in Salem, Virginia Beach: a trunk taken down in short rigged sections between two houses, with a crew member on the ground holding the lowering line
A removal in Salem, Virginia Beach: the trunk comes down in short roped sections between two houses, right beside the roof, siding and satellite dish.

When Art-is-Tree handles a tree removal in Virginia Beach, the process starts before anyone touches a chainsaw. We assess the lean, the weight distribution, and every hazard on the ground. We determine whether the tree can be sectioned down from the top or whether crane-assisted removal is the right call for tight-access properties. We set the rigging, clear the drop zone, and the climber goes up knowing exactly what the plan is for every cut. Nothing is improvised when a tree is coming down over a structure.

Large Tree Specialists

We are large tree specialists. If you have gotten quotes from other tree companies who said your tree was too big, too close to the house, too difficult, or inaccessible — call us. Difficult large tree removal is what Art-is-Tree was built for. Crane-assisted tree removal, tight residential lots, trees over structures, trees near power lines, waterfront properties along the Chesapeake Bay — these are the jobs where 17 years of climbing experience and proper professional equipment matter most.

Complete Cleanup Included

Every tree removal includes complete debris cleanup. We chip the brush, remove the wood, and rake the area. Your yard should look better when we leave than it did before we arrived. Stump grinding is available as an add-on — ground below grade so you can sod, replant, or build over the area with no stump or root flare left in your way.

All estimates are free, written, and never exceeded on the day of service. We serve Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, and surrounding Hampton Roads. For a free tree removal estimate call (757) 319-5131.

What Homeowners Say About Our Tree Removal

Rated 4.9 stars across 158 Google reviews. A few from customers whose trees we took down:

Mike from Art-is-Tree recently removed my large red oak and did a fantastic job. I wouldn't call anyone else for the job — Mike and his crew made my yard look better than when they started. This is the second tree job we've used them for. Our family is safe now that the tree is gone, no more worrying if a storm will damage our house from the huge tree that used to be feet away from my daughter's window. Thanks Mike and the crew!

Cannot recommend this company enough! We needed a tree cut down in a very tight space, some trees cut/pruned, and deadwooding in other areas. Michael, Tommy and team took care of us earlier than originally planned. They knocked everything out, plus some extra we added last minute, in a very fast and efficient manner. And the cleanup… perfection! Our yard (and our neighbor's yard) is cleaner than when they showed up. I would absolutely use these guys if you need tree work!

These guys do fabulous work. Took down a tree near the house power line with no trouble. Plus their cleanup was perfect. I will use them again for sure. Plus they really know about trees — rare.

Overall, they did fantastic. The tree was in a tight spot with some concerns about potential house damage, but they handled it no problem. Competitive pricing, prompt, quick, polite. They did superb and earned 5 stars without question. I trust them and will certainly use them for my other trees in the near future.

Art-is-Tree came out to provide a proposal for pruning many trees around our church property and the removal of a 200-year-old ash tree in our church yard. They promptly answered the many questions I had as we were making decisions about the work. It is very clear they take great pride in the work they do. By the end of the day everything was cleaned up as if they'd never been there, and they returned the next morning to grind down the stump, spread new soil, and seed the area. They were very careful not to damage an altar that sits under the tree canopy. Art-is-Tree knows what they are doing and I would highly recommend their services to anyone, residential or commercial.
Melissa Thomas · Google · 2026
My neighbor was having trees trimmed and they asked if they could enter my back yard for easier access. I mentioned I hate my mature river birch because it makes such a mess. Tommy, who was very friendly, immediately gave me a reasonable quote to take it down, and they showed up early the very next day. Finished and cleaned up beautifully.
